But first, we must grieve

Even hundredfold grief is divisible by love.

~ Terri Guillemets ~

This is a repost of my blog from Saturday, December 15th on A Year of Making a Difference - (www.ayearofmakingadifference.com)

My heart is heavy. My thoughts sluggish.

I have no words to make sense of what happened in Newtown, Connecticut. I have no words to ease the pain and sorrow, the grief and confusion and sadness.

And so I pray.

Choose Love Over Fear

“Love is life. And if you miss love, you miss life.”

~ Leo F. Buscaglia ~

This is a repost of my blog from December 4th on A Year of Making a Difference - (www.ayearofmakingadifference.com)

As I left my house one morning last week, I glanced into the sky and gasped. It was so beautiful. Pink and red and golden hues streaked across the blue. The trees were covered in hoar-frost, their branches laden in white.

The gifts of the season

Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.

~ Calvin Coolidge ~

Abuse Hurts. Stop It.

Social justice cannot be attained by violence. Violence kills what it intends to create.

~ Pope John Paul II ~

As November is Family Violence Prevention Month, I am sharing my Friday post from my daily blog, A Year of Making a Difference. It is important that we never forget -- The power to stop abuse begins within each of us.

Abuse Hurts. Stop It.

Family violence kills. Spirit. Hope. Dignity. Trust. Life.

Giving is Receiving

If instead of a gem, or even a flower, we should cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend, that would be giving as the angels give.

~George MacDonald ~

The Poet Boy

In war, there are no unwounded soldiers.

~ Jose Narosky ~

Remembrance Day. Lest we forget. Let us not forget.

Their sacrifice. Their honour. Their duty to country. Their names.

Let us not forget.

My father went off to war when he was a boy. He went off and fought and came home and seldom spoke of those years again.

A Journey of Love

We can all take responsibility for helping to bring about change, and keeping our friends and colleagues safe from domestic violence.

~ Charles Clarke ~

November is Family Violence Prevention month in Canada and at my daily blog, A Year of Making a Difference, I'm dedicating Friday's to a post on the subject.

The 3C's

Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.

~ Proverbs 26:20 ~

The Promise

Everyone is a millionaire where promises are concerned.

~ Ovid ~

My eldest daughter called me the other night. She’s excited about a project she’s embarking on and wanted to tell me all about it.

I am grateful for her willingness to share with me what lives within her heart.

I want to invite people to make promises about their lives and to share those promises and their commitment to live true to them, she told me.

In Thanksgiving I am grateful

Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving.

~ Kahlil Gibran~

I awoke this morning with a grateful heart, my awareness full of the countless blessings of my life.

I am grateful for this day.

It is Canadian Thanksgiving, a day infused with abundance, gratitude and bliss, not to mention the prerequisite full-belly delight of over-indulgence of turkey, stuffing and all the fixin's.
