And the answer is...

The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.

Whew! Coaching at Choices is one of my favourite things to do. This week was even extra special because it was seventh anniversary since going through the training in April 2006 and, my youngest daughter was coaching with me. What a gift.

Letting go to be present

Life is available only in the present moment. If you abandon the present moment you cannot live the moments of your daily life deeply.

~ Thich Nhat Hanh ~

I have been invited to participate in a group art show in May. It is my first, 'public' showing of my work and while I have sold some pieces, I've never really focused on my art-making as a means of making a living. I love to paint -- I'm just not prepared to commit myself to living off my work!

What Am I Waiting For?

If art is an expression, it only flourishes when people have the freedom to express themselves.

I am laughing at myself this morning. Laughing and smiling and saying, as Benjamin Zander would say, "Oh my. Aren't I fascinating!"

It is spring. And, like clockwork, along with longer daylight and buds appearing on the trees, I have sunk into my spring ennui, and forgotten that every spring, I sink into a spring ennui! Oh yes. I am fascinating to me!

And the sky didn't fall.

As the blood courses through the map of my veins as it journeys to the heart, I know that even though the road is long it's making it whole again.

My daughter has an eating disorder.

There. I’ve said it. Publicly.

In our magnificence, we shine

Thoughts create a new heaven, a new firmament, a new source of energy, from which new arts flow.

I am sitting on the 'floor chair', my back cushioned by pillows, my knees tucked up towards my chest. I am sitting and listening and feeling my way into stillness.

Message Received

Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil, and let us see what we are made of; they just turn up some of the ill weeds on to the surface.”

~ Charles H. Spurgeon ~

I wrote the following on my daily blog (www.ayearofmakingadifference.com) last week. It generated a lot of thoughtful responses.

Farewell to Brett

May love be your cradle.

When Will We Ever Learn?

Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality.

~ Emily Dickinson ~

I cried when I heard the news on Saturday. I cried and my heart was heavy.

On Sunday, I cried again when I told my daughter and her tears flowed as she heard of the loss a family we love dearly has experienced. A loss so incomprehensible. A loss like no other. Their child, a son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend has died. His life ended by the hands of another.

And my heart is heavy.

At the soul of my being

Making resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self-assessment and repentance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking them is part of the cycle.

Merry Christmas!

I am not alone at all, I thought. I was never alone at all. And that, of course, is the message of Christmas. We are never alone. Not when the night is darkest, the wind coldest, the world seemingly most indifferent. For this is still the time God chooses.
